This Privacy Policy explains what information the Knights & Knaves app ("the App", "we", "our", "us") accesses, how it is used, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. By using the App you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information We Access & Collect
The App handles a few distinct kinds of information:
- Game progress (on your device). Solved riddles, the answers you chose, XP, rank, language preference, and whether you have completed the intro are stored locally on your device. We do not collect them.
- Anonymous device identifier. The App generates a random identifier on first use. It contains no personal information and is not linked to your identity, accounts, or advertising IDs. It exists only so each riddle counts one answer per player.
- Submitted answers. When you answer a riddle, the App sends your chosen option, the anonymous identifier, and your selected language to our server. These records power the "% of players also picked this" statistics, in anonymous, aggregated form.
- Technical request data. Like any online service, our server processes standard technical data (such as an IP address) to serve requests; it may be processed in shortened or hashed form for abuse prevention and rate limiting.
- Usage & diagnostic data. We may collect anonymous crash/error diagnostics and aggregated usage signals (e.g. device model, Android version) through Google/Firebase to keep the App stable. This never includes anything that identifies you.
We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, contacts, location, photos, or advertising identifiers. The App contains no ads and no in-app purchases.
2. How We Use Information
- To provide the core features: delivering riddles and artwork, recording your answers, and tracking XP and ranks.
- To keep gameplay fair — your first answer to each riddle is final, enforced per anonymous identifier.
- To show anonymous, aggregated answer statistics.
- To diagnose crashes and improve performance and reliability.
- To deliver in-app update prompts through Google Play.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
3. Device Permissions
The App requests only what its features need:
| Permission | Why it's used |
|---|---|
| Internet / network state | Load riddles and artwork from our server, submit answers, in-app updates, and crash diagnostics. |
That's the whole list — the App does not request access to your contacts, storage, camera, microphone, or location.
4. Analytics & Diagnostics
We use Google/Firebase to collect anonymous, aggregated information about how the App is used and to capture crash and error diagnostics. This helps us find and fix problems and decide what to improve. Analytics data is limited to app-interaction and device-type signals — it does not include your answers history in any identifiable form.
5. Third Parties We Use
We do not sell your personal information. We rely on the following service providers, each acting under its own privacy policy, strictly to deliver the features above:
| Provider | Purpose | Policy |
|---|---|---|
| Google Play | App distribution, in-app updates & the optional review prompt | Link |
| Google / Firebase | App infrastructure, crash diagnostics & usage analytics | Link |
6. Data Retention
- Game progress: kept on your device until you delete it (Settings → Start over) or uninstall the App. You control it entirely.
- Submitted answers: retained on our server in anonymous form to power aggregated statistics.
- Diagnostics data: retained by Google for as long as needed to provide the service and as required by their policies and applicable law.
7. Your Rights & Choices
- Reset & disconnect: Settings → Start over erases your local progress and replaces your anonymous identifier with a new one, permanently disconnecting the App from any previously submitted answers.
- Language: switch between English, Arabic, and Spanish anytime in Settings.
- Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data.
- Regional rights: Depending on where you live (e.g. under GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data. Because we hold no data that identifies you, most requests are satisfied by design — but you can always contact us to exercise them.
8. Children's Privacy
The App is suitable for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country). It requires no account and requests no personal information from anyone. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will remove it.
9. Data Security
All communication between the App and our servers uses encrypted HTTPS connections, and we take reasonable technical measures to protect the information the App handles. Because we hold no personal data, the risk associated with our servers is minimal by design. No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure.
